If you read a few of the websites on the subject, many conclude that the best way to determine admin rights is to attempt to do things an admin should be able to do and test for failure. Clunky but effective. Does anyone know, how I can find out from my VO-app, if the user has admin-rights or not. TIA Ulrich.

That's incorrect - users do not need admin rights to run *any* MS Office app, or any properly written app. If your users require this, someone has badly botched up these workstation installes.

As for what damage they can do, pretty much anything anyone with Admin rights could do... I would suggest going to the Local Security policy on that machine and locking down permissions for what Administrators can do and replace those rights with Domain Admin, Ie ability to shut down the computer.

Then create Admin_Karl and Admin_KarlsBrother accounts for when you need domain admin rights. Unless you need admin rights frequently, that might work as well, while adding to your security.
