admin rights

Hi, O.K.--Gettin upset about permissions-can't look at logs-insufficient permission-tired of this crap--admin should be admin-HELP!!!! Jeff

In Windows Vista, even though you are logged in as an Administrator, every program you run is only allowed standard user rights.
Some programs will ask you for "permission" to use admin rights (such as the control panel, etc), while others will just give an access denied message (such as command prompt, and opening log files from explorer).
To get around this ...
1) Good security practice
Open the program you are using as an administrator. For example, if you want to look at log files by double-clicking them from explorer:
- Click start - Type explorer - Right-click windows explorer when it comes up, click Run as Administrator
All .exe files will have Run as Administrator in their context menu.
2) Poor Security Practice - go back to the old way
- Click Start - Control Panel - User Accounts and Family Safety (if in category view) - User Accounts - Change Secuirty Settings - Uncheck the check box, click OK

Jimmy, Can't get a right click prompt run as admin in C\windows\pfirewall.log. Would do it the new way-can't! Any help? Jeff

Correct, you have to run the tool you want to access that file with as admin.
Use the example I gave and open an "admin" explorer:
- Click start - Type explorer - Right-click windows explorer when it comes up, click Run as Administrator
Then you will be accessing all of your files with full admin rights, but only from inside that window. So, double-clicking that file will work :)
It is kind of like having a "root shell" in that "other" operating system, except it's graphical.
Alternatively, you could open notepad as admin and then open the file from within notepad.
